Amani has an extensive background in advocacy for people impacted by the prison industrial complex. Sawari is a spoken word artist whose compositions are embraced as a tool to facilitate reflective dialogue. As the founder of SawariMedia she's written and distributed thousands of print publications to increase civic engagement among people in prisons and jails across 33 states. Prisonality, her most recent venture aids outside audiences seeking to understand prisoner conditions from the excerpts of SawariMedia's incarcerated reader submissions. She's earned her B.A. in Law Economics and Public Policy as well as Media Communication Studies from the University of Washington.
